The metric you report is the metric you optimise
Pick the number your team will chase for the next quarter carefully — it will quietly reshape every decision under it.
Dana Okonjo

Every dashboard is an argument about what matters. The moment you put a number on the wall, people start bending their work towards it — which is exactly what you want, provided you picked the right number.
The failure mode is picking a metric because it is easy to collect. Sessions, impressions and open rates are all easy. None of them tell you whether anyone came back.
Before you commit a quarter to a number, ask one question: if this goes up thirty percent and nothing else changes, is the business better off? If the honest answer is maybe, pick a different number.
